Stages, challenges and results of lean implementation in surgical centers.

Resumo: This study aimed to explore the benefits and difficulties of implementing Lean philosophy in surgical centers, through a qualitative study conducted in four major Brazilian hospitals that implemented the philosophy, as well as to describe the experience with this implementation. To do this, a literature review, visits and interviews were conducted in four health institutions where the philosophy has already been implemented in the operating room. The results show that its implementation effectively reduces the time of operations and hospital stays of patients, improves the punctuality of procedures, reduces losses, errors, materials and preparation time, as well as increases collaborators’ satisfaction.
