Public Management
Paulo Paiva is an adjunct professor at Fundação Dom Cabral and honorary president of the Labor Relations Council at FIEMG. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from UFJF, and a Master’s Degree in Economic Demography from the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is a retired professor from UFMG, where he was the director of the Center for Regional Planning and Development (CEDEPLAR), and coordinator of the graduate program in Economics. Prof. Paiva was Tinker Visiting Professor at Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs - The University of Texas at Austin. In the last three decades, he has held many roles in the public administration. In the Federal Government, he was Minister of Labor, Planning and Budgeting, and the president of the National Privatization Council, and was a member of the National Monetary Council. In the government of Minas Gerais State, Paulo Paiva was secretary for Planning and General Coordination, and Transportation and Public Contracts. In the finance public sector, Paiva held the position of vice-president of planning and administration at Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID), and president of the Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais. Prof. Paulo Paiva was also president of the board of directors at BDMG, BEMGE and CREDIREAL, state banks in Minas Gerais. Among the published books, the highlighted ones are “Sonho e Realidade” (2001), “Labor in the Americas ”(2007) and  “Políticas Públicas no Brasil” (2017), the last one co-organized with minister Gilmar Mendes. He writes articles for the newspaper O Tempo and the magazine Viver Brasil. His area of interest is mainly economic policy, economic and political scenarios, public policies and public management.
