The role of strategy making in organizational learning.

2,017  Academy Of Management Proceedings, v. 2017, n. 1.   VAZ, Samir Lótfi  et al. Article   VAZ, Samir Lótfi  et al. This paper discusses the role of strategy making in organizational learning. Our reasoning holds that the organizational learning involves the interplay between cognition, practices and social mechanism. By linking the organizational learning and strategy-as-practice literatures, we have done a qualitative research, analyzing the development of the growth strategy of a Brazilian company in the energy power sector. Our research objective is to analyze how intertwined the cognitive process and strategic activities are in organizational learning. The findings show that organizational learning happened during strategy making and involved four sequenced causal flows in which specific type of strategic activities contributed directly or indirectly to learning loops. Our main contribution shows that the implementation of strategic activities is the key to strategic renewal. Inglês
