Maria Silvia Bastos

Maria Silvia holds a Master's and a Ph.D. in Economics from FGV. She was President of BNDES from 2016 to 2017. From 2014 to 2016 she served as special advisor to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro for the Rio 2016 Olympics, and from 2011 to 2014 she was President of the Municipal Olympic Company. She headed Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) from 1999 to 2002, having joined the company in 1996 as Superintendent Director of the Corporate Center. She also worked in municipal and federal public administration, having been Finance Secretary of the city of Rio de Janeiro between 1993 and 1996, and held various positions at the Ministry of Finance and at BNDES between 1990 and 1992, including as a director. She previously was a professor in the economics department at PUC-RJ and a researcher at IBRE-FGV.
