International Business Center Research Project - Institutional Distance and Cultural Intelligence – International Travel Performance Study
| Purpose/Relevance of Project: |
|
International flows of financial capital, people and information are higher than ever. Within that context, International business travelers are crucial carriers of intra-firm knowledge and have the potential to greatly inhibit or enhance the host country unit’s performance. A major problem executives and companies confront nowadays is the difficulty in performing in diverse environments. In that sense, Cultural Intelligence, defined as the knowledge and capability of an individual to adapt to a different or new social environment, has been shown to influence the relationship between institutional distance and travel and job strain. This strain directly affects the executives’ performance on these important international business trips. Therefore, FDC is striving to help companies and executives develop an international mindset in order to improve their performance within this context. | |
