Competencies may be organizational or managerial. Organizational ones deal with the combination of company resources that make each one unique, and so these are the origins of competitive advantage. Managerial competencies unfold and support organizational competencies and they relate to the managers’ work at the company. Managerial competencies must therefore be aligned with strategy, with organizational competencies and with the company's management model.
Developing the solution
It may be necessary to map or develop competencies. Mapping means identifying, describing and classifying corporate and professional competencies. Developing means identifying and working existing gaps among the managerial competencies needed for company strategy, both current and future.
