Competencies can be either organizational or individual ones. Organizational competencies deal with the combination of company resources that make it unique. It is the source of competitive advantage. Individual competencies unfold and support organizational competencies and they are related to the people who work for the company. Thus, individual competencies must be aligned to strategy, to organizational competencies and to an organization’s management model.
Preparing the solution
It may be necessary to map or develop competencies. Mapping means identifying, describing and classifying corporate and professional competencies. Developing means identifying and working on the gaps that are found among the individual competencies needed for company strategy, both now and in future.
