Second Meeting - 2010
The second edition of the International Advisory Council had the participation of 43 members. On August 16th, as opening to the meeting, Chairman Donald Jacobs presented the panel New Directions in Latin American Foreign Relations with the World, under the guidance of Ministers Alfredo Moreno from Chile and Celso Amorim, from Brazil. It was immediately followed by another panel, Brazil: Basis for Sustainable Economic Development, moderated by Roberto Rodrigues, former Minister of Agriculture, now working at FGV Agro.

In the afternoon, the Council participated in a round table, Views from the Market: Challenges Facing Corporations in the Second Decade of the 21st Century, this time moderated by Dean Jacobs. To close the day, the councilmen were taken out for a lovely evening in Ouro Preto, where they were received by the town’s Mayor, Mr. Angelo Oswaldo, and by the Governor of the State of Minas Gerais, Mr. Antonio Anastasia, and ushered into a performance of the Virtuosi Orchestra, conducted by Maestro João Carlos Martins.

On the 17th, FDC’s Dean Professor Emerson de Almeida inaugurated the morning with a presentation of the foundations of FDC and what has been done for the institution to remain relevant to its stakeholders. It was followed by a breakout session, in which the council members discussed what it means to be relevant and how FDC can remain relevant to the world. Lastly, the group reunited for a plenary session when each group highlighted their main conclusions.
The meeting’s third Panel, Dialogue on Sustainable Development, was moderated by Professor Pierre Tapie, Dean & President of ESSEC Business School, Paris-Singapore and Chairman of GRLI - Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative. The keynote speakers were Mr. Duncan Niederauer, CEO of the New York Stock Exchange Euronext, and Mr. Mohan Munasinghe, the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize as Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (United Nations).
Before saying goodbye, the councilmen, along with conference participants and special FDC guests, were invited to a networking luncheon with a lecture delivered by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, Columbia University and Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General, USA.
